A little something about me and one of my favorite photography experiences!
My trip to St. Thomas transformed me in so many ways. I achieved many things I never thought I could/would do.
My niece Brittany told me last year she would be celebrating her 30th birthday someplace tropical. Her mother Sherry said we should crash her birthday. I said it sounds like a good idea. Now mind you I’m not a big fan of flying but I figured I had almost a year to decide. It came all the way down to the wire. I didn’t book the trip until near the end of January. I prayed to God for courage. And my prayers were answered!
We had Brittany thinking I wasn’t coming. The looks on her and Joel’s faces when WE walked into that lobby. Priceless!!!!
Land, Air, and Sea!
First of all the thought of going up and down 8 times on a plane had me paralyzed. I’ve been on 2 planes my entire life and that was for work. I got on those 4 flights with my Supergirl cape on! (I was reading Year Of Yes).
There is a big beautiful world out there to discover. I made every excuse in the book. I’m going to start my collection of experiences. I would look at my friend’s pages of all the places they travel to and think, wow look at them.
I said Yes!!!
We took a 15-minute ferry ride to St. John. (I don’t do water either). I had to talk myself into that too. That was a roller-coaster ride. Would I do it again?
Yes!!
OK, so you travel by taxi EVERYWHERE. And they drive on the other side of the road. Oh boy! And they drive fast! That was an adventure in and of itself!
Yes!!!
I boldly went where I never thought I’d go. I took the limits off of myself. I bought a swimsuit and got into the outdoor hot tub. My beloved sister Tonia was shocked by that. (I lost her in 2019)
Yes!!!!
I have a completely different outlook on so many things.
I CAN do it!!
Yes!!!!
I had the opportunity to photograph the beautiful scenery of St. Thomas. When I tell you the views were spectacular! I photographed everything from sunrises to beach scenes to our beautiful resort, it was simply amazing. I actually sold a print of a photo I shot of a staircase. We had our annual photography show, and one of the advisors purchased my print! I absolutely want to go back and spend more time doing just that! I needed this trip for so many reasons. It’s all still sinking in.
Yes!!!!
Thank you Sherry for the gentle nudging.
Thank you Brittany for helping me pick my swimsuit.
Thank you Joel for the laughter and fun.
Thank you, Lord, for everything!!!!
Yes!!!!
Love the read. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! What an amazing story of saying Yes! I don’t like to fly either and have limited myself with traveling. Thank you for having the courage to share.
